A fine group of high quality dairy cows in full flow of milk awaited buyers on July 27th at the Great Northern Sales Arena. Despite the very hot temperatures, the cows were performing well and are certain to be profitable additions for their new owners! The top price of $2,350 came on a Le-O-La Emerson Classic dtr. milking over 100 lbs. as a 3 yr old and bred back to Damion. At 1-09 she had made 24,196M. The second high price of the evening came on a big, black Buckeye 3 year old milking 130 lbs. after making 38,880 at 1-10. She sold for $2,300. Two other 3 yr olds sold for $2,200 each – both of these were producing in the 115 – 120 lb. range with low SCC. The only springing heifer to sell was a Garrison due to Pronto and she brought $1,425. |

The June Production Sale offered buyers a high quality group of fresh cows and springing cows. Featured in this June 8, 2010 sale were 29 first and second lactation cows from Springhill Farm, Big Prairie, OH. Bidding was active and buyers appreciated the quality being offered with several cows selling at or above $2000. The top price of the evening came on a Zenith 3 yr old from Springhill Farm. Just fresh and milking 100 lbs. after making 26,570 at 2-00, this 85 pt. cow sold for $2,800. A Pontiac fresh with second calf after making 23,270 at 1-11 sold for $2,400 to claim the second high seller’s spot. |

Seagull Bay Holsteins and Triple Crown Genetics teamed together to host the Pedigree Power Sale at the Great Northern Sales Arena on June 3, 2010. These progressive Idaho dairymen, Alan, John & Greg Andersen along with Jordan Leak, offered 79 deep pedigreed members of their key cow families. Lynmead Celsius Minnow-ET EX-91 2E GMD DOM is the foundation of a tremendous cow family that claims the #3 GTPI young sire, #2 GTPI heifer, #11 CTPI cow and #15 GTPI daughter proven sire. Naturally, this family also claimed the high sellers of the sale! The top price of $17,500 came on a November, 2009 Jeeves daughter selling with an open end lease contract to Semex and a contract to Alta. T-C-G Jeeves Meagan-ET is the #15 GTPI Jeeves daughter at +2182, has brothers in A.I. and offers an outcross pedigree with her dam a VG Laudan with sons in A.I. and a ninth generation EX or VG in the Minnow family. Oakfield Corners Dairy, Oakfield, NY placed the final bid on this exciting heifer! Lot 1, Roylane Socra Mira 1760-ET, has three sons contracted to A.I. and sold with an open end lease contract to Semex for her natural calf. A full sister to the #3 GTPI young sire on the 4/10 run, Roylane Socra Robust-ET, this impressive Socrates is backed by a VG-86 DOM 36,430 Oman who is #10 GTPI cow of the breed (4/10), then an EX-90 DOM Manat daughter of the foundation cow, Minnow. A fancy individual with GTPI +2051, she was purchased by Select Sires Inc., Plain City, OH. A new Excellent with more points in her future, Markwell Goldwyn Dixie-ET, sold fresh after making 28,090 at 2-03. From the heart of the Raven family, Dixie has sons in A.I. & is backed by a VG-86 29,170 Morty then 5 generations Excellent. She was the choice of Tom Frozene, Westfield, WI at $13,300. T-C-G Jet Stream Miley-ET, the #24 GTPI Jet Stream daughter at 2013, and selling with contract interest sold for $7,400 to Cranehill Genetics, Hilmar, CA. Another Jet Stream, T-C-G Jet Stream Modest-ET, who has one son contracted to A.I. and sold with contract interest commanded $7,300. This maternal sister to the sale’s high seller sold to Golden Oaks Farm, Wauconda, IL. |

The May Production Sale on May 19, 2010 at Great Northern witnessed a slight depression in prices as dairymen find themselves busy with crops and trying to make ends meet with a lower milk check than they would like! The majority of cows sold in the $1,500 - $2,000 range with the top price of $2,000 coming on a beautiful uddered Morty 2 yr old milking 85 lbs. with an SCC of 24. A small group of well grown bred heifers from one dairyman – all with sire identification and bred A.I., sold in the $1,400 - $1,650 range. |

May Day Sale ~ May 1, 2010 |

The Great Northern May Day sale was held at the Great Northern Sales Arena on May 1, 2010. A large crowd of juniors were on hand for the fitting and showing workshop held prior to the sale. Fond du Lac County Junior members gave demonstrations on clipping, washing and making a bedding pack while Kelli Cull gave a very informative workshop on showmanship. The sale line-up included several show-age heifers as well as a good looking group of high producing milk cows. The high seller for the day was the Dundee 2 yr old from the Alicia family. Byron Bruins, Waupun, WI paid $4,600 for this promising young cow consigned by Butz-Hill Holsteins and Jeff Butler. Her dam is the VG-88 EX-MS Goldwyn from BKB Abby-ET EX-94 2E. The Dundee’s March heifer calf by Jasper created a great deal of interest and the bidding was fast and furious!!! When the gavel struck, Mary Feucht, Waupun, WI had the winning bid at $4,500. Also selling for $4,500 was a beautiful hard topped, straight lined Dundee summer yearling backed by 9 generations Excellent in the Roxy family. Junior member Sarah Henschel, Elkhart Lake, WI will have fun showing this heifer consigned by Robert Moede, Algoma, WI. The Shottle spring yearling consigned by Kamphius Farms LLC, Brandon, WI also generated a great deal of interest. Backed by 13 generations of Excellent and Very Good dams, this exciting heifer was the choice of Fischer Heights, Manitowoc, WI at $4,300. Great Northern Land & Cattle Co., Inc. managed the sale with selection assistance from Niles Wendorf and Chad Ryan. John Hager cried the sale with Rick Bovre giving pedigree updates. Kevin Jorgensen and Norman Magnussen fielded the bids. |

| Melvin and Robin Gunnink, Brandon, Wisconsin dispersed their homebred herd of Registered Holsteins at the Great Northern Sales Arena on April 13, 2010. The 124 lots from baby calves to cows averaged $1515. The herd’s current rolling herd average stood at 22,159 3.7% 824 2.9% 641 and the large group of youngstock was particularly impressive! The top price of the day came on a beautiful uddered Goldwyn just fresh with her second calf. Looking like a high VG cow, Mel-Rob Goldwyn Molly-S-ET, would then complete 6 generations EX and VG. Molly was purchased by John Krueger, Hilbert, WI for $4,000. Her big, fancy maternal sister by Damion commanded the second high price of $2,600. This massive, wide rumped bred heifer sold to Emerald Acres, DePere, WI. The Mel-Rob Dispersal was managed by Great Northern Land & Cattle Co., Inc. with Darrell Worden calling the sale and Rick Bovre giving pedigree updates. Working the ring were Jake VandeZande, Kevin Jorgensen and Norman Magnussen. |

| Duckett Holsteins presented the Spring Edition of the Celebration Sale on April 3, 2010 at the Great Northern Sales Arena. The sale featured offspring of the impressive cows that have anchored the Mike and Julie Duckett’s showstring the past couple of years as well as key cow families that have provided the foundation for their exceptional herd! A total of 81 lots sold for an average of $5,614. The World Dairy Expo Supreme Champion, Harvue Roy Frosty EX-95, provided the high seller of the day for Duckett, Junemann & Armbrust. First choice of her Alexander heifers due in October 2010 sold to Arethusa Farm LLC, Litchfield, CT for $59,000. One of the breed’s top LPI and GLPI cow families provided the second high seller. Duckett-B Gold Shiloh-ET, owned by the Ducketts and Butz-Hill Holsteins, sold for $23,000 to Jeff Sharts, Greenwich, NY. This fancy September, 2009 Goldwyn from the VG-88 GTPI +2162 Shottle Sizzilne looked to be the kind that will show plus write contracts! A special added entry was the first choice female by Frosty’s Goldwyn son, Fremont, from the All-American & All-Canadian Sr. 2 Year Old of 2009, Dubeau Dundee Hezbollah VG-89. Consigned by St. Jacobs ABC, Inc., this choice was selected by Feed Source, Petaluma, CA for $20,500. The Reserve Intermediate Champion of the Midwest National Spring Show 2009 sold to Team Holsteins, Baker & Swanson, Hampshire, IL. Hicklee Goldwyn Good-Tw-ET EX-92 has out 35,747 in 337 days and sold due in July to Aftershock. The consignment of Duckett, Kasbergen & Dyment, Good commanded a final bid of $19,700. Also featured in the Celebration Sale was a group of 15 exceptional heifers from Elegance Futures, Lomira, WI. Achieving top honors in this group was the beautiful April 2009 Stormatic daughter of All-American and All-Canadian Jr. 2 Year Old 2009, Long Haven Gold Rochelle-ET VG-89. Budjon-JK-Phnx Roxanne-ET sold for $16,200 to Patty Strobel, Henderson, MN. The Celebration Sale Spring Edition was managed by Great Northern Land & Cattle Co., Inc. with Chris Hill and Norman Nabholz handling their ususal positions in the sale box. Fielding bids from buyers from 14 states and Canada were Rick Bovre, Perry Phend, Michael Heath, Paul Trapp & Mike Deaver. The cattle were presented by Molly Florent, Nicky Reape, Tom McCauley and Joe Casper. The cattle were expertly prepared by Pat Conroy, Nathan Thomas, Joel Kietzman, Cody Schultz, Perry Phend, Brandon Ferry and Chad Ryan. |

| Excitement filled the air on Friday, March 26th at the Great Northern Sales Arena as a large crowd gathered for the Spring Showcase hosted by Siemers Holsteins of Newton, WI. The Siemers family had assembled a stunning line up of consignments from across the country to compliment the 36 lots offered from the heart of their breeding program. At day’s end the 93 full lots averaged an impressive $7,285 with buyers from Wisconsin, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Iowa, Connecticut, New York, Nevada, Illinois, Ohio, Maryland, Texas, Idaho, Indiana, Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia! Commanding the top bid of the day was the consignment of Tom Schmitt, Durango, Iowa. Lookout Holsteins and Marita Holsteins, Canton de Hatley, Quebec paid $38,000 to claim first choice Dorcy female from the #3 GNM Cow of the breed & #5 GTPI Cow of the breed, Morningview Shtl Lucy-ET VG-86 VG-MS GTPI +2339. A favorite among the many show heifer prospects was Arethusa Goldwyn Evita-ET. This awesome Goldwyn fall yearling due in September sold for $31,000 to Ed Crossland, Mt. Savage, MD. Her dam, Sure-Can-Do Durham Vanity EX-94 2E was the HM All-American 4 Year Old 2005 for consignors Arethusa Farm LLC, Litchfield, CT. The Arethusa crew invested some of their proceeds by purchasing the high indexing October, 2009 Spearmint calf offered by Todd Galton, Nunda, NY. Muranda S-Mint Lulu-ET GTPI +2214 sold for $25,000 and hails from the Beachlawn Blwood L Lilly family, her dam an EX 39,400 Boliver. Selling in absentia due to the Wisconsin health stipulations for Minnesota cattle was Lot 1, Larcrest Cascadia-ETS. This outstanding July, 2009 Alexander from the #1 CTPI Cow of the breed, Larcrest Cosmopolitan, was consigned by Jon & Ann Larson, Albert Lea, MN and purchased by Tom Gretz Jr., Mt. Pleasant, PA for $22,500. The first choice Niagra female offered by Brian & Wendy Fust, Wausau, WI commanded a final bid of $21,000 from De-Su Holsteins, New Albin, IA. The dam of this choice, Fustead Oman Sammy-ET VG-85 DOM GTPI +2109 has a Shottle son who is +2374 GTPI and a Ramos daughter +2280 GTPI. Among the select red and whites offered in the sale was a lovely September, 2009 Lawn Boy daughter of the #1 CTPI Red Cow of the breed, Derrwyn Special Missy-Red EX-92 DOM and 2-time Res. All-American. The consignment of Tom Mercuro and Adam & Nathan Goldenberg, Rocky Ridge, MD, Mer-Gold LB Marigold-Red-ET sold for $20,500 to Tom Priest, Greencastle, PA. A nice crowd previewed the sale cattle the evening prior to the sale and was treated to hors d’oeuvres and refreshments compliments of Investors Community Bank. Prior to the sale, guests were treated to a huge breakfast compliments of CP Feeds and Hubbard. Trans Ova Genetics provided grilled cheese sandwiches throughout the sale and Animart supplied the cookies and beverages. The Siemers family had a large sale staff assisting with David Rama serving as auctioneer and Roger Turner on pedigrees. Working the ring were Rick Bovre, Ray LeBlanc, David Crack, Jr., Scott Courtney, Mike Deaver, Jay Jauquet, Kevin Jorgensen and Ryan Matheron. Presenting the cattle were Crystal Siemers-Peterman, Jordan Siemers, Jacob & Joshua Siemers, John Erbsen and Jackie Florent. The cattle were in show ring condition due to the efforts of Perry Phend, Chad Ryan, Jason Danhof, Cody Schultz, Garrett Schmidt, Brandon Ferry, Ryan Krohlow and Kelly Lee. | An interested and active crowd gathered at The Great Northern Sales Arena for the Lost-Elm Dispersal of Jerry, Phyllis and Jason Luttropp. The herd featured great production including several Honor Roll cows as well as high classification scores. The impressive line-up of 117 full lots sold for an average of $4,015 and will make their new homes in 12 states in addition to Mexico and Canada. Topping the day, Old Mill Snicker Time ET “E92” sold for $30,000 to The On Time Syndicate from Ohio, Wisconsin, New York and Florida. Snicker Time is by Primetime and from the 7x All-American famed Snickerdoodle. Her score along with the recent record of 44,129m/2,355f/1,560p make Snicker Time the highest record and highest scored Snickerdoodle daughter. Commanding $23,800 and second high seller, Lost-Elm Prelude Pixy ET “2E-92”, is the World Record Holder Brown Swiss for both milk and fat. She is ahead of the pace on her last lactation and was purchased by a new Brown Swiss owner - Jim Janes, Wisconsin. Next in line, Blessing Starbuck Peggy”2E93”, brought $22,000 from Ron Kelm, Wisconsin. Recently fresh and looking the part of more score, Peggy is the dam of Lost-Elm Pixie ET “2E93” an 8th generation “EX” who followed her dam as the next high seller at $18,500. Pixie was purchased by Bradner Farms of British Columbia for their growing and exceptional Brown Swiss line-up. Also going to Canada, but this one to Manitoba was last year’s HM All American Milking Yearling - Lost-Elm Supreme Jinx ET. She was taken by Swiss Dream Farms from Manitoba for $14,500. The Lost-Elm Dispersal was managed by Modern Associates of St. Paris, OH with assistance from The Great Northern. Darrell Worden wielded the gavel with Wayne Sliker making announcements. Brian Garrison, Rick Bovre, Lee Barber, and Kevin Jorgensen worked the ring with Paula Bovre capably handling clerking duties. |

A nice, active crowd was on hand March 9, 2010 at the Great Northern Sales Arena for the March Dairy Production Sale. The sale featured primarily fresh cows, both grades and registered, with a few bred heifers and a group of open heifers. The prices were very steady throughout the sale with right at half of the cows selling for $2,000 or higher. The top price of $2,450 came on a 2 yr old Red & White milking over 85 lbs. Sired by KHW Axion-Red-ET, this milky young cow has a GP-83 28,990 1352 dam and VG-86 27,300 4.3 1172 granddam. Second high seller at $2,350 was a second calf daughter of Clover-Mist Chandler-ET. This lovely uddered cow sold milking 113 lbs. last test. The springing heifers sold in the $1500 - $1550 range. The group of grade open heifers (600 -800 lbs.) were all Red & White and sold in the $700 - $900 range. Three additional registered open heifers sold up to $1050. |

Despite Mother Nature’s snowy presence on February 9, 2010, a nice crowd of interested buyers made the trek to the Great Northern Sales Arena. Upon arriving they found the barn filled with several impressive registered cows as well as a large number of good uddered, low SCC fresh cows ready to add lots of milk to their bulk tanks! Lauber Farm consigned seven lovely, deep pedigreed young registered cows. The sale topper came from this group. Selling for $3,600 was a VG-86 Falcon three year old milking 98 lbs. and backed by a 2E-90 GMD 31,460 Mason. The second high at $3,000 was her Damion sister, a 2 year old milking 92 lbs. Prices were steady with the majority of the fresh young cows selling in the $1600 - $2300 range. The top price for bred heifers was $1500. This came on 3 different heifers: a big grade Aspen springing to Integrity; a registered Dante springing to Binky from a 25,280 Encore and a Garrison due to Abraham (sexed semen) from a 23,907 dam. |

Prices were steady throughout the January Dairy Production Sale on January 12th. The bidding was active but it was also apparent that everyone has a limit they do not want to exceed. Several fresh cows sold in the $2,000 range with a top of $2,400. This came on a Ready daughter milking well over 105 lbs. in her third lactation after making 34,250 at 3-01. The top selling springing heifer was a big, strong Roy granddaughter with outstanding udder promise. She sold due later in February to Aaron and is backed by a VG-85 24,430 Derry then a 2E-93 GMD DOM gr’dam. She commanded a final bid of $1,950. |
